[ Alright, apparently he's in need of correcting and hand-holding is directly involved in this dance. Castiel's mind searches frantically, like thumbing through the pages of a dictionary, for more information on the various types of human dances, specifically a waltz. So often he's observed humans laughing and dancing to music with one another, but so rarely are the terms used. He can't remember what a waltz is, or if he's seen one performed before, and when Dean wraps an arm around his waist and pulls him flush, Castiel's mind completely blanks. He drops his free hand on Dean's shoulder as directed, where it seems to fall naturally, and he clings to Dean as if he's worried he might fall, because he believes he might. He's very, very worried he might fall, and Dean's stunningly careless affection would absolutely be the cause of it. ]

Dean, I've never danced before.

[ Castiel feels obligated to remind. He's thoroughly addled just by being pulled in close by Dean, and they haven't even begun. This is a recipe for disaster. ]

Okay.

[ Really basic. Of course. Castiel is a solider of Heaven, a warrior of God. He's performed countless complex martial exercises flawless. It's only three steps, and it makes a box. Castiel steps backwards from Dean to watch his steps, and thus he's a step behind at first and slow to follow. On the next box, he keeps up with Dean, though his steps are still hesitant and spaced too far apart. On the third repetition, he begins matching Dean exactly, the same pattern but in reverse so that they're moving together.

There's less tug between their hands or swing between their shoulders now, but Castiel keeps watching Dean's feet to be sure he's following properly. This is much simpler than the mating dances of birds or bees, he decides, and the thought reminds him of whom it is he's dancing with, and the heat rushes frustratingly back to his face once again. He's drawn to look up, and there he is, Dean so beautifully close to him, dancing with him, holding him. Castiel has forgotten the steps, but his feet move to follow Dean's with the practice of repetition now. ]

Is this is right?

[ He's not sure. It feels right, but he doesn't trust his own judgement in the moment. He looks to Dean for approval or dismissal. Castiel still has no idea what he's doing. ]

[ It's strangely domestic. As they continue to step in measured boxes, Castiel's shoulders gradually begin to loosen and his posture becomes just slightly more natural. ]

No, it's... really basic, as you said.

[ It's nice, dancing with Dean. There's a sense of purpose and intent to their steps, even though the dance itself is simply the same action over and over again, neither gaining or losing ground. There's something unspoken and intimate about it that he wonders if Dean feels as well, or if Castiel is simply experiencing the novelty of never before having danced with someone like this. He's enjoying himself, though he looks down, momentarily self-conscious as he considers the dances he's seen. ]

Shouldn't there be music involved?

[ As Dean lets go, Castiel is struck with regret for having broken the moment. He was wrong, he thinks, to question Dean about the need for music, and Castiel stands awkwardly as he waits for Dean to decide whether their game is worth resuming or if Castiel has ruined the fun of it completely.

He's equally surprised, then, when Dean agrees, taps his phone, and music begins to play from its tinny speakers. Castiel feels a warmth bloom fresh in his chest at the first chords, and the feeling only grows as Dean takes his hand once again, and he rests his hand on Dean's arm, and they begin their circular steps. Though the dance was beautifully significant before, the music adds another dimension to it, a harmony to the feelings Castiel is already experiencing. It emboldens him to put the feelings into words, however insufficient. ]

This is nice.

[ Castiel isn't sure if this is a love song or not, though the lyrics seem to imply some longing for it. Though Castiel can't be sure whether Dean had any intention in choosing this song specifically or if it were simply the first one he was able to retrieve, it has significance for them now, in a way that Castiel finds he secretly, possessively enjoys. ]
