Located somewhere on the main strip, Rocky's Bar(cade) looks like it's been created from the remnants of an abandoned dive.

There are two entrances to Rocky's. The first will take you into the bar itself, where you are able to get standard bar food, along with beer, wine, hard liquor, mixed drinks, as well as soda and water. Currently on offer are the following snacks:

French fries
Onion rings
Nachos
Wings
Mozzarella sticks
Quesadillas
Chicken Sliders
Artichoke dip
Hamburgers*

The second entrance will take you down into the basement, where you will find a very retro, very 80s style arcade. There are pinball machines, Pacman, and other various games to be played. Alcohol is permitted in the arcade, but if you get shitfaced and start getting sloppy, a bouncer or Dean himself will throw your ass out.

WHAT IS YOUR CHARACTER'S SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUND? WHAT IS THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO WEALTH?: Dean's first four and a half years were comfortable; his dad worked at the local garage and his mom stayed home with him. They weren't rich, they weren't poor.

After his mother died and his dad went batshit with guilt and rage and dragged his kids off on a kill bill style revenge porn murder spree monster style, it got a little worse. His father spent all the savings he'd built for himself and his brother's education on ammo and would often leave his very young children either with people Dean barely knew, or alone in motel rooms. The latter happened more frequently the older Dean became; he was the father, the mother, the brother to Sam, and whatever it took, his brother came first. Sometimes the money their father left for them ran out and he resorted to stealing from gas stations and grocery stores, pickpocketing in crowds. When he was a teenager he learned to hustle pool and play a wicked game of poker. When times got thinner than he could manage, there were back alleys and other ways he'd learned to make money - desperation can make a guy throw all his reservations out the window.

WHAT WOULD/DID YOUR CHARACTER MAJOR IN?: Dean claims he's not smart, but in reality he's incredibly intelligent. Still, it's doubtful he would have elected to go to college even if he'd had he choice - his passion is cars, and he would have opted for trade school, certifications, that kind of thing. Eventually, he would've opened his own garage - in the djinn episode, the one where his 'wish comes true', that's where he works.

WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR CHARACTER?:

LMAO UM??? bro i dont even know what to pick for this. God...I'm gonna go with the demon deal that sent him to hell for 4 months (40 years) and resulted in him literally being raised from perdition by an angel of God. A lot of crazy shit happens to Dean so it's REALLY hard to pick one thing out that's 'interesting', but the demon deal/being raised from the dead in such a dramatic fashion will always be one of my fave moments.

⏵ THE BUNKER ⏴
An unassuming but rather large building easily mistaken for a rundown warehouse sits far enough from the city center it takes a bit of effort to get to. Its entrance is rather small and nondescript, almost below ground level, only accessible by a special key. The front door opens onto a metal catwalk with a staircase down to the main level. The main level itself is decorated in Art Deco style with wall sconces and metalwork decorations. The frieze around the walls contains hidden symbols, sigils, and Devil's traps. At every doorway, there is a symbol which would be the next line of defense if a demon breaks in. A war room one greets guests at the bottom of the stairs, and deeper inside is a library. Further in there are several rooms meant as sleeping quarters. The complex also houses a shooting range, complete with three targets and a dungeon for holding demons hidden in one of its archive rooms.

The bunker consists of several levels. The front door opens onto a metal catwalk with a staircase down to the main level. ⏵ THE WAR ROOM ⏴

Upon descending the metal staircase, one enters a war room with ham radio, telegraph, switchboard, map table, and other electronic devices including a Commodore 64. According to Charlie, it has encryption software and appeared to be powered by something magical. Charlie said that the whole system acts like an alarm in cases of global catastrophe, such as angels being cast out of Heaven, as Kevin Tran has witnessed. Charlie added that during circumstances like those, the system shuts down the bunker.

⏵ THE LIBRARY ⏴

The library walls are covered with bookcases and filing cabinets containing many files collected over centuries. The books and files contain accounts of every exorcism conducted over three hundred years, case files, incident reports, and information on the many hunters the Men of Letters worked with. At the end was a an alcove housing a large telescope, described by Mrs. Butters as an interdimensional geoscope.

The Bunker can be sent into a lockdown that cuts off all power and water inside, locks the doors beyond any ability to open and stops the airflow into the Bunker. This type of lockdown will kill three people trapped inside in two to three days and with the addition of a mystical dampener, even magic can't reverse it. The only way to end this kind of lockdown is to hit the manual override located outside the Bunker.

⏵ THE BASEMENT/DUNGEON ⏴

The complex also housed a shooting range, complete with three targets, and a dungeon for holding demons hidden in one of its archive rooms. The dungeon included a Devil's trap as well as cuffs and chains that were engraved in spellwork. There was also a very large kitchen, and what seemed to be an infirmary.

⏵ THE GARAGE⏴

The bunker included a garage that housed a number of vehicles, like cars and Dorothy's motorcycle. Most vehicles were classics due to the Order's foundation in earlier decades.

⏵ THE DEAN CAVE⏴

The Dean Cave (or Fortress of Dean-a-tude) is an area of the Men of Letters Bunker which Dean has turned into a recreational room for himself and Sam. The room's layout includes a Foosball table, a jukebox that only plays vinyl, a bookshelf of vinyl records and cassette tapes, double La-Z-Boy recliners, and a bar (still a work in progress) which consists of two cinder blocks and a bit of wood on top of an alcohol-filled credenza. The walls are decorated with AC/DC and Led Zeppelin posters, as well as a framed vinyl record of Kansas' Point of Know Return album, an Impala poster, and neon beer signs and beer posters, with four kegs hanging from the ceiling.

- codependency: Dean’s brother is the most important person to him, and he will do anything for his brother - literally anything. He will go to hell for him, protect him, kill for him, whatever it takes. The boys are extremely close - it’s been noted they know each other better than they know themselves. Their relationship has been a recurring, underlying theme since Season 1 - these two have immense ‘brotherly love’ when in actuality it's an unhealthy, enabling, co-dependent relationship. Dean needs Sam - more than Sam needs him.

- low self esteem/self worth: He doesn’t value his life and puts himself at risk of injury and death with no hesitation. When confronted, he plays it off as a joke, or becomes somber and says “I’m tired, man.” Every negative thing that has happened to him since he was four culminates in unhealthy coping mechanisms (booze, sex, occasional drug use). Dean blames himself for every bad thing that happens to and around him. In some way, shape, or form - everything is his fault, and as a whole, he thinks he's just a grunt and not worth saving.

- Emotionally Repressed: Dean has spent the vast majority of his life raising Sam; he's repressed his own emotions in order to remain a functional parent figure. He doesn’t like talking about his feelings/trauma, referring to vulnerability as ‘chick-flick’ moments and tends to brush off concerns as ‘no big deal’. Even back in s5 when he returns from Hell, Dean lies about it, says that he doesn’t remember anything despite his brother's continued concern, and this behavior continues throughout the series. The majority of Dean’s life has been spent hunting; learning to kill supernatural creatures, and of ugly, toxic masculinity defining his life-views from an early age. The Winchester men are manly men, they shoot things and kill monsters and don’t have all those weepy womanly feelings. Dean generally hides many things he likes, because it’s ‘girly’ to enjoy soap operas, etc.

-Temper: He has a temper on him (much worse when he has the Mark, huge loose cannon), which correlates directly with his tendency to bottle things up and hide his emotions. He can only hold emotions and feelings up for so long until it explodes out of him, and when that happens he can be vicious and cruel with his words, saying things he doesn’t always mean (or worse, things he does). It manifests physically sometimes as well; when Dean loses his temper the closest thing to him tends to get it, be it the Impala, a demon, Castiel, or even Sam.

+ Smarts: Dean is incredibly intelligent - his brother is often viewed as the 'smart one' and Dean as the muscle, but Dean is actually ingenious himself. He made his own EMF out of a beat up walkman, it was Dean’s idea to pack the shotgun shells with rock salt, and he has an impressive amount of knowledge in his skull - and not just from his love of pop culture. Dean worked with his father for quite some time before he and Sam partnered up, and he is perfectly capable of doing research and reading a book on his own. He has just as much of a freak encyclopedia in his head as his brother.

+ Loyalty: Dean is devastatingly loyal to those he loves - friends and family alike - and he tends to care far too much. He wants to save the world, save everyone, but he realizes that’s an impossible task and even so, he carries the guilt of those he couldn’t save with him throughout his life. He will absolutely go to bat for the people who have earned his respect and loyalty in turn.

+ Kindness: For all of Dean’s obvious mental issues; PTSD, trauma, self-hatred, low self-worth/self-esteem, and tough-guy attitude, Dean is exceptionally kind, and far more emotional than he lets on. He’s good with kids and can relate to them, especially if they’ve been through something traumatic. Dean can be a vulnerable person at times, delicate and surprisingly easy to hurt. He is self sacrificing, willing to die for not only his family, but for the innocents at risk from monsters and spirits. He isn't without fault, but his heart is in the right place.

Personality: From the very first moment we meet Dean, we know that he's a sassy little smartass that has no problem breaking into his brother's apartment or hitting on his girlfriend. It's a classless, dick move, and it's probably something Dean's done before. In What Is And What Should Never Be, Dean is transported to a false world created by a djinn, and in that world Sam tells Dean he slept with his prom date, and Dean replies "Yeah, that does kind of sound like me". He's kind of an asshole at first glance, but as time goes on, it's more 'lovable dick' than 'actual piece of shit'.

Dean's issues are considerable, the stem of the poison rooted deep in the depths of his childhood. His trauma started early, when his mother was killed by the demon Azazel, and his home set ablaze when he was just four years old. At four years old, Dean was carrying his baby brother out of a burning house to save his life. As a direct result of losing his mother, Dean moves from one tragedy to another throughout his life. Due to John's inability to cope with Mary's death, the need for vengeance is utterly all consuming, and it dictates the entire future of his two children. Dean has dealt with the repercussions of this his whole life, and deals with a considerable amount of PTSD related problems as a result.

Instead of a normal, apple-pie childhood (even with an absent mother), Dean is instead treated to a life of hunting, of learning how to kill supernatural creatures, of ugly, toxic masculinity defining his life-views from a very early age. The Winchesters are manly men, they don't need anyone but each other, family is the most important thing there is. Dean was forced to grow up far too fast - most of his early years were spent looking after Sam and raising him far more than his father ever did. He made them 'dinner' (often in the form of spaghetti o's or cereal, but food is food), made sure Sam did his homework, got him to school, taught him about girls. Truthfully, Dean was more of a father to Sam than John ever was.

Dean has spent the vast majority of his life looking out for Sam and protecting him; as such, he has made sure to repress any and all of his own emotions in order to remain a functional parent figure. As someone who grew up with John Winchester for a daddy, Dean doesn’t exactly have healthy coping mechanisms, nor does he have a good relationship with himself. He feels like he can’t express himself emotionally, and, as stated above, he tends to downplay or cover up his traumas, hiding behind humor and using his sarcasm as a shield.

One can also deduce by Dean’s deflection and disdain for said ‘chick-flick’ moments, that his Daddy wasn’t exactly emotionally available either, and likely downplayed his own trauma in front of his boys, likely claiming that it wasn’t manly. Dean got this from somewhere, the only logical explanation is his father.

We know Dean was a troubled youth/teen - he has lied, cheated, and stolen his way through his youth in order to make sure Sam was fed, clothed, and had ‘good’ birthdays and holidays. He does this without complaint, because Sam is and always has been his top priority. Family means everything to Dean - it is the end all, be all, and is the reason Sam had a different childhood experience compared to Dean. Sam was a rebel, Dean the dutiful soldier, “Daddy’s blunt little instrument.” Sam was, oddly, the one John doted on, loved, while Dean was clay to be molded into a miniature John, shaped into the perfect fighter - obedient, a ‘mindless attack dog’. Dean, as a youth and teen, idolized John and did everything he asked. He followed his fathers orders blindly, and became his father’s right-hand man.

Despite the hero worship, however, deep down Dean does harbor some resentment towards John in regards to the way he was raised. We see this evidenced in Dream a Little Dream of Me - Dean’s dream self is taunting him, reminding him of all of his self-loathing, that he has nothing outside of Sam, and that everything about Dean is just his father, from his car to his clothing to his taste in music.

Dean retaliates by shouting My father was an obsessed bastard! All that crap he dumped on me about protecting Sam, that was his crap, he’s the one who couldn’t protect his family, he’s the one who let mom die, who wasn’t there for Sam, I always was, it wasn’t fair!

He’s angry with his father, and while the man went to Hell for his son, it doesn’t excuse the years of what could essentially be considered emotional abuse and neglect that he inflicted on his two sons. He consistently left them alone, telling Dean he was in charge, and to watch out for Sammy. It was too much pressure to put on a young boy, but John was obsessed with finding the demon that killed Mary, so much so that he forgot to be a father. He frequently dumped his kids either on others, or simply left them in skeevy motel rooms with a handful of money and left them to fend for themselves. Dean was the one in charge of buying groceries and making sure Sam was fed, and often got frustrated with all of the responsibilities John put on his shoulders, but always made sure to take care of his brother.

At this point in his life, Sam is the most important person to him, and he will do anything for his brother - he will go to hell for him, protect him, kill for him. The boys are extremely close - it’s been noted, several times in the show, that they know each other better than they know themselves.

Their relationship has been a recurring, underlying theme since Season 1 - these two have immense ‘brotherly love’ when in actuality, it can be viewed, from an outsider's point of view, as a relatively unhealthy, enabling, co-dependent relationship. Zachariah himself says "You know you can't trust them right? You know Sam and Dean Winchester are psychotically, irrationally, erotically codependent on each other, right?" Dean needs Sam. Yes, they are codependent, yes, it’s incredibly unhealthy, yes it is soul crushing to everyone around them, because they repeatedly make choices for the sole purpose of ensuring the other brother lives, regardless of who dies around them. But this is a world where Sam and Dean are literal vessels for archangels, where they inadvertently start the apocalypse because of their dedication to one another (Dean would have never broken the first seal in hell if he hadn’t sold his soul to save Sam and so on and so forth), where they are worse apart than together.

It’s arguable that Dean even wants to be a hunter, frankly. In Yellow Fever, while infected with ghost sickness, Dean essentially has the equivalent of a panic attack, telling his brother they’re crazy for hunting ghosts, that they’re insane for living their lives the way they do. It’s likely intended as comedic effect, but it’s also a stark reminder that Dean does not like the life they lead, nor is he truly passionate about hunting.

“We’re hunting a ghost.”

“A ghost, exactly - who does that?!”

“...Us.”

“And that, Sam, is exactly why our lives suck!”

Dean isn’t wrong. Their lives do suck, and they have sucked for a long time. This is the life that was chosen for them, not the one they would have picked for themselves. We know Dean wants an apple pie life because of the events in Dream a Little Dream of Me (among others), but specifically this one, in particular. He vehemently denies his wants a vast majority of the time, but this is one of the happiest times we ever see Dean. The smallest things bring him great joy - a sandwich his mother makes, seeing his brother with Jessica, mowing a lawn, a pretty girlfriend, a normal job.

"...You want to mow the lawn?" Mary asks in confusion.

"Are you kidding me? I'd love to mow the lawn," Dean answers.

"Knock yourself out. You'd think you never mowed a lawn in your life."

Dean's reaction here makes it pretty clear that he hasn't ever done this mundane, normally boring, task. He's...not very good at it, but he is so incredibly proud of himself when he's finished. He sips his beer and surveys his work, and the pure happiness on his face is clear and present. It’s all circular, though, and as he visits his father’s grave, he knows exactly what his old man (his real old man) would say - ‘Go hunt the djinn. Your happiness over all those people's lives? No contest.’

It’s even more obvious that Dean desperately wants something normal and sweet, since he considers staying, even knowing that he'll die - he'll have everything he wants in his head. Dean has never REALLY cared about himself and his life - staying alive is only worth it because he can protect sam. Even as early as S1 Dean tells Sam he's 'tired' - and he doesn't just mean physically. He means emotionally, psychologically, spiritually. Dean is exhausted, and he is ready to rest.

That said, weirdness and djinn influenced reality aside, Dean is pretty adaptable. Throughout canon, he’s thrown into some pretty crazy situations and timelines and AUs, and while at first he tends to be a little freaked out, he quickly adapts and starts asking questions, trying to figure out where he is and what’s going on. If you think about it, he and Sam are basically detectives - they find a case, use their knowledge of lore and problem solving skills, gank a monster, and move on to the next one.

For all that their lives suck, though, Dean somehow manages to not be a complete wreck. He loves pop culture, and despite calling his brother a nerd, he spends whatever free time he may have consuming media. He loves movies and TV shows, and makes references to many, many fandoms over the years, including (but not limited to!): Game of Thrones, Ghostbusters, X-Files, Star Trek, and Lord of the Rings. He also enjoys reading, though the things Dean reads aren’t what anyone would consider ‘light’ - he mentions Slaughterhouse Five and Cat’s Cradle, and the Odyssey, just to name a few.

Dean’s love of pop culture isn’t just shallow interest, though. He states that he likes to watch movies where he knows the bad guy loses, and that growing up, it was always nice to check out once in a while. In this regard, Dean really isn’t that different from all of us. He uses music and movies and TV to escape, throwing himself into these things because it is peace amidst the chaos of his life. He obsesses over his favorites, gets excited, shows his boyish enthusiasm for movies like Hell Hazers and All Saint’s Day. He does nearly nothing for himself in the way of self care (beyond his clear and ever present alcohol addiction, which is in no way a healthy coping mechanism), but he does lose himself in things like his music, a story, or hell - even a cheeseburger or a piece of pie.

Movies/TV/Books (etc), for someone going through repeated episodes of trauma, are a coping mechanism, and allows the viewer to see themselves in the hero more often than not. We relate to fictional characters, find ourselves wishing we were them in some capacity. We throw ourselves into something that we know isn’t real, but the escapism allows us, for a few brief moments, to pretend that it is. Given Dean’s upbringing and extended stays in numerous motels that likely had a TV, it’s not surprising at all that he found solace in old westerns or B-rated horror films. Dean, for all of his tough guy attitude, is far softer than anyone could ever realize. He was often left alone with a much younger sibling who couldn’t relate to him, so he found solace on the silver screen.

He’s good with kids and can relate to them, especially if they’ve been through something traumatic. Dean’s a pretty vulnerable person, somewhat delicate and surprisingly easy to hurt. He is self sacrificing, willing to die for not only his family, but for the innocent people at risk from monsters and spirits.

He doesn’t value his life very much and continually puts himself at risk and when chided for his recklessness, plays it off as either a joke or becomes somber and just says “I’m tired, man.” Dean is devastatingly loyal to those he loves - friends and family alike - and he tends to care far too much. He wants to save the world, save everyone, but he realizes that’s an impossible task and even so, he carries the guilt of those he couldn’t save with him throughout his life.

Dean likes to pop off that he's a hero (please see After School Special where he's been exposed cheating on his girlfriend because she freaked him out with wanting him to meet her parents, consequently didn't get mad when she caught him, and instead told him that instead of something more under his bad boy attitude, there was nothing there and that he was a sad, lonely little kid, to which he responds, I save lives, I'm a hero!), but really, for the most part,
he's self-sacrificing, selfless, and cares/feels so deeply it's nearly a negative trait.

Dean is devastatingly loyal to those he loves, most especially friends and family. He wants to save the world, save everyone, though he realizes that’s a nearly impossible task. Even so, he still tries and winds up carrying the guilt of those he couldn’t save with him throughout his life.

For all of Dean’s obvious mental issues, his PTSD, his trauma, his self-hatred, low self-worth and self-esteem, and his tough-guy attitude, Dean is exceptionally kind, and far more emotional than he lets on. Located in Cellar Door, Rocky's Bar(cade) has been created from the remnants of an abandoned dive (done with explicit permission!) and turned into something far more entertaining than an empty bar. Dean spent the better part of his 'first' month in Trench getting the place ready to go - the idea had hit him not long after he arrived, and with nothing else on his hands but time, he'd thrown himself into it.

Enlisting as many specialists as he could to make it all happen by the first of March, he'd traded a lot of his herbs and spices, and promised favors to a whole lot of people he'd rather not have. With the help of these locals, he was able to speed the process up on his beer as well and have it ready to go in kegs for the opening. Where it would've taken a few months, it took weeks.

For your convenience, there is also a Lamp Friend outside the bar.

There are two entrances to Rocky's. The first will take you into the bar itself, where you are able to get standard bar food, along with beer, wine, hard liquor, mixed drinks, soda, and water, if you're boring. Currently on offer are the following snacks:

Admission: Admission will be local 'currency'; a shiny rock, quartz or gemstone (or something similar) will pay for a night of drinks and games. Spices and things like salt/pepper are also acceptable.

The second entrance will take you down into the basement, where you will find a very retro, very 80s style arcade. There are pinball machines, Pacman, and other various games to be played. Alcohol is permitted in the arcade, but if you get shitfaced and start getting sloppy, a bouncer or Dean himself will throw your ass out.

Kids ARE permitted in the arcade until 10pm. After that, they will be asked (made) to leave the premises, and it becomes adult only.

★ Pain tolerance: As a vileblood, Dean's pain tolerance will be incredibly high. Injuries won't slow him down - if anything, they will fuel his rage, and push him closer towards corruption.

★ Poison: Dean's blood, sweat, and tears can be poisonous and lethal - if he chooses. It can also have a numbing effect equivalent to how novocaine or lidocaine works.

★ Blood Consumption: Consuming the blood of any sleeper will amplify his abilities, especially that of a Paleblood. It may also allow him to temporarily take on an ability of the sleeper he has consumed from.

★ Corruption: Dean is fairly vulnerable to corruption; he suffers from bouts of depression and anxiety, alcoholism, and codependency. His mental state can be surprisingly fragile; he is, at heart, a compassionately caring man despite the trauma and hardship he has endured, and the mask he has kept in place. Dean's corruption will result in emotional detachment, increased use of alcoholic substance, and general disregard for his own safety.

• Negative:

- codependency: Dean’s brother is the most important person to him, and he will do anything for Sam - literally anything. He will go to hell for him, protect him, kill for him, whatever it takes. It almost seems like Dean defined himself by how well Sam is or isn't doing, and in doing so, he tends to neglect his own mental health and well-being.

The boys are extremely close - it’s been noted, several times in the show, that they know each other better than they know themselves. Their relationship has been a recurring, underlying theme since Season 1 - these two have immense ‘brotherly love’ when in actuality, it can be viewed, from an outsider's point of view, as a relatively unhealthy, enabling, co-dependent relationship. Dean needs Sam. This is a world where Sam and Dean are literal vessels for archangels, where they inadvertently start the apocalypse because of their dedication to one another (Dean would have never broken the first seal in hell if he hadn’t sold his soul to save Sam and so on and so forth), where they have convinced themselves they are worse apart than together.

This frankly hasn’t changed at all for EV!Dean - especially in Deerington, when he had two versions of his brother running around. The need to protect and keep them safe was at an all time high, and as quickly as possible he moved them both into his too small cabin, needing them close and within reach. He frequently checked on them, texted them, and made sure that they were as safe and well fed as possible. Dean is a needy, codependent man, despite his attempts to appear otherwise.

- low self esteem/worth/loathing: He doesn’t value his life very much and continually puts himself at risk and when chided for his recklessness, plays it off as either a joke or becomes somber and just says “I’m tired, man.” His unhealthy internalization of every negative thing that has happened to him since he was four culminates in unhealthy coping mechanisms (booze, meaningless sex, occasional drug use). Because of this way of looking at things, Dean tends to blame himself for every bad thing that happens to and around him. In some way, shape, or form - it’s all his fault.

Both EV!Dean and OU!Dean have a massive guilt complex that fuels the darkness in their bones; Dean blames literally everything that goes wrong around him on himself - from the deaths of everyone close to him to the friggin' apocalypse. The first broken seal was because of him, after all. His choice to continually say no to Michael is what created 'endverse' as we know it, and that is certainly on him.

Endverse!Dean is the epitome of this self-hatred, this all consuming feeling of worthlessness; he has made all of the wrong choices and led them straight into the worst possible ending of the apocalypse - Lucifer winning, with no angels in sight. Dean blames himself for this, and while his rage is directed towards Sam’s weakness for saying yes, ultimately Dean knows he is at fault, because they have always been stronger together.

- emotionally repressed: Dean has spent the vast majority of his life looking out for Sam and protecting him; as such, he has made sure to repress any and all of his own emotions in order to remain a functional parental figure. He doesn’t often talk about his feelings, referring to vulnerability as ‘chick-flick’ moments, and tends to brush off Sam’s concerns about Dean’s trauma as ‘no big deal’. Even when he returns from Hell, Dean lies about his experiences, says that he doesn’t remember anything despite his brother's continued concern. It’s a defense mechanism obviously, but it’s a way to keep himself and his brother safe from each other, as well. The vast majority of Dean’s life has been dominated by hunting, of learning how to kill supernatural creatures, and of ugly, toxic masculinity defining his life-views from a very early age. The Winchester men are manly men, they shoot things and kill monsters and don’t have all those weepy womanly feelings. Dean generally hides many things he likes, because it’s ‘girly’ to enjoy anime or soap operas.

As someone who grew up with John Winchester for a daddy, Dean doesn’t exactly have healthy coping mechanisms, nor does he have a good relationship with himself. He feels like he can’t express himself emotionally, and, as stated above, he tends to downplay or cover up his traumas, hiding behind humor and using his sarcasm as a shield.

One can also deduce by Dean’s deflection and claimed disdain for said ‘chick-flick’ moments, that his Daddy wasn’t exactly emotionally available either, and possibly downplayed his own trauma in front of his boys, likely claiming that it wasn’t manly. Dean got this from somewhere, the only logical explanation is his father. EV!Dean is the same, and while he has made strides towards lessening his self-hate and low self-esteem in Deerington, he still has all that internalized, and hasn't broken free of the curse just yet.

- temper: One final thing to note about Dean is he does have a temper, which correlates directly with his tendency to hide his emotions. A person can only bottle their emotions and feelings up for so long until it explodes out of them, and when Dean bursts, he can be vicious and cruel with his not just his actions but also his words, saying things he doesn’t always mean (or worse, things he does). It also manifests physically; Dean is an incredibly feeling person (EV or not - EV likes to think he’s numbed himself when in reality, he’s probably more sensitive and angry than ever, and therefore acts like an even BIGGER asshole to hide it), and when he loses his temper the closest thing to him tends to get it, be it the Impala, a demon, or even Sam’s nose (depending on circumstances).

• Positive:

+ Smarts: Dean is incredibly intelligent - while his brother is often viewed as the scholar and Dean as simply the beefy muscle behind the operation, Dean is a lot smarter than he appears. For all that he talks down about himself, he's a walking freak encyclopedia of lore, spells, urban legends. You name it, he's probably read about it, heard about it, or fought it. He'd argue with you that Sammy's the college boy, he's the one with all the brains, but the amount of research Dean himself has done is staggering. We see him multiple times pouring over ancient tomes, reading or researching online while Sam interviews witnesses, pointing out something they missed, bringing up little tidbits of legend that can turn the whole tide of a case.

He made his own EMF out of a beat up walkman, it was Dean’s idea to pack the shotgun shells with rock salt, and he has an impressive amount of knowledge in his skull - and not just from his love of pop culture. Dean worked with his father for quite some time before he and Sam partnered up, and he is perfectly capable of doing research and reading a book on his own. He has just as much of a freak encyclopedia in his head as his brother.

EV!Dean is just as much of a detective as his old self was - he is creative and while beating the snot out of Raleigh Becket wasn't one of his finer moments, he was still resourceful and called on favors and his knowledge of the town and its people to locate the person who'd hurt his baby brother.

+ Loyalty/Family: Simply put - Dean is devastatingly loyal to those he loves. From youth into adulthood, Dean blindly followed his fathers orders, doing what he was told to do when he was told to do it, without question, without hesitation. Throughout the years this fades into bitter resentment to his father, but he is still undeniably loyal to those he considers friends and family.

We know Dean was a troubled youth/teen - he has lied, cheated, and stolen his way through childhood and adolescence in order to make sure Sam was fed, clothed, and had ‘good’ birthdays and holidays. He does this without complaint, because Sam is and always has been his top priority. Family means everything to Dean - it is the end all, be all, and is the reason Sam had a different childhood experience compared to Dean. Sam was a rebel, Dean the dutiful soldier, “Daddy’s blunt little instrument.” Sam was, oddly, the one John doted on, loved, while Dean was clay to be molded into a miniature John, shaped into the perfect fighter - obedient, a ‘mindless attack dog’. Dean, as a youth and teen, idolized John and did everything he asked. He followed his fathers orders blindly, and became his father’s right-hand man.

Despite the hero worship, however, deep down Dean does harbor some resentment towards John in regards to the way he was raised. We see this evidenced in Dream a Little Dream of Me - Dean’s dream self is taunting him, reminding him of all of his self-loathing, that he has nothing outside of Sam, and that everything about Dean is just his father, from his car to his clothing to his taste in music.

Dean retaliates by shouting My father was an obsessed bastard! All that crap he dumped on me about protecting Sam, that was his crap, he’s the one who couldn’t protect his family, he’s the one who let mom die, who wasn’t there for Sam, I always was, it wasn’t fair!

He’s angry with his father, and while the man went to Hell for his son, it doesn’t excuse the years of what could essentially be considered emotional abuse and neglect that he inflicted on his two sons. He consistently left them alone, telling Dean he was in charge, and to watch out for Sammy. It was too much pressure to put on a young boy, but John was obsessed with finding the demon that killed Mary, so much so that he forgot to be a father. He frequently dumped his kids either on others, or simply left them in skeevy motel rooms with a handful of money and left them to fend for themselves. Dean was the one in charge of buying groceries and making sure Sam was fed, and often got frustrated with all of the responsibilities John put on his shoulders, but always made sure to take care of his brother.

EV!Dean in Deerington is even more loyal - with his brothers and Cas here, he has devoted himself to them fully, and raced right into what he knew was a death sentence to bring both his little brother and Castiel back to safety. He will willingly risk his life to protect the people he loves, and has no regrets doing it.

+ Kindness: For all of Dean’s obvious mental issues, his PTSD, his trauma, his self-hatred, low self-worth and self-esteem, and his tough-guy attitude, Dean is exceptionally kind, and far more emotional than he lets on. He has been shown by several people that he isn’t alone, and that he is cared about - and in turn, his caring and compassion was extended in turn. A great example of this is with Ariadne - she tells Dean she doesn’t have family, but he thinks otherwise; "Looks to me like you've got a big one here, if you want it. Family don’t end with blood.”
